Netanyahu Calls for the Stationing of Israeli Force on the Eastern Border of a Future Palestinian State

29/12/2009

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Sparked for the first time publicly yesterday, the possibility of the concentration of Israeli forces along the eastern border of a future Palestinian state to prevent the smuggling of weapons.

According to Netanyahu: The State which the Palestinians want to establish in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip should be demilitarized , yet he did not mention a specific reference to the stationing of Israeli troops on Israel's border with Jordan.

The Palestinians are calling for a geographically contiguous state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip which in turn have been granted to them in the Oslo Accords of .1993, and demand a complete control over the entire border with Jordan in any future agreement, but did not rule out accepting the existence of an international force.

Netanyahu however said: "The international arrangement" of the borders of a Palestinian state along the lines of the deployment of UN peacekeepers in south Lebanon after Israel's war in 2006 against Hezbollah will not be enough.
